Brilliant quality
The quality of a diamond is defined by its color and clarity.
Colour
Diamonds come in all colors. A color scale from "D" for very fine white to "Z" for tinted diamonds is used for grading white and lightly tinted diamonds. The graduation follows the guidelines of the CIBIJO (World Jewelery Association) or the IGI (International Gemological Institute). Color gradations:
Clarity
During the natural formation process of a diamond, inclusions of particles such as minerals or signs of growth can occur. The clarity of a diamond is graded by a trained professional under tenfold magnification of an achromatic and aplanatic magnifying glass, in normal light. Cut diamonds are considered flawless if no inclusions can be seen under tenfold magnification. Any peculiarities found at even higher magnification are not taken into account in the graduation. The overall picture and the character of the stone as a whole are decisive for the clarity rating.
